Michelle Keegan and Douglas Booth lead the cast of The Blame, made by Quay Street Productions and filming in and around London this summer for ITV1 and STV. The series is produced in association with Fifth Season, which will also handle global distribution and is based on the debut novel of the same name by Charlotte Langley published by Bedford Square.
Keegan and Booth play a pair of DIs investigating the death of a teenage figure skater that sends shockwaves through the town of Wakestead.
Written, developed for television and executive produced by Megan Gallagher, the 6-part drama follows DI Crane (Keegan) and DI Radley (Booth) as they dig deeper. What starts as a tragic death spirals into a tangled web of lies, institutional cover-ups, and moral compromise. Ian Hart co-stars with the cast also joined by Joe Armstrong and Nigel Boyle.
Charlotte Langley said, “I’m over the moon that The Blame is being adapted for TV. The issues in the book are every bit as important as when I wrote it so I’m thrilled it will be brought to the screen by a fantastic team and cast.”
Lead writer and executive producer Megan Gallagher said: “The Blame is such an important and urgent story to tell; I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to bring Charlotte Langley’s world and characters to life on screen.”
Jamie Hodder-Williams, who acquired The Blame for Bedford Square said: “We are thrilled that Charlotte’s timely and powerful novel will be brought to the screen by such a talented team. The Blame is a book that deserves to reach the widest audience.”
Kate Nash, literary agent, said: “This gripping story showcases a particular talent. Charlotte explores such crucial and emotive issues and within the expertly crafted form of a thriller that everyone can engage with. Matching The Blame with Nicola Shindler at Quay Street and Jamie Hodder-Williams at Bedford Square and their talented teams has been perfect.”
